I have been a journalist in Connecticut for more than 30 years. I spent 23 of those years as a reporter and editor at the Hartford Courant, America’s oldest continuously published newspaper in America.
Since 2009, I have been teaching newswriting at my alma mater, the University of Connecticut, and I love it.
I am also a frequent contributor to the non-profit website Connecticut Health Investigative Team, or C-HIT.org. In the summer, I teach journalism to high school students at C-HIT’s summer programs at UConn and at Yale University.
In even-numbered years, I am also the election stringer coordinator for the Associated Press in Connecticut and Rhode Island. My job is to hire about 270 people on Election Nights to call in the vote totals from AP from every town in both states, with multiple polling places covered in the big cities. It’s quite a networking challenge, but I enjoy it.
